Hi All,

We have installed Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 on a
Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition virtual server.

This is currently configured to monitor a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard
database environment. We have noticed the MSHTA.EXE process on the SQL Server
is utilising close to 900MB of RAM.

Can you please advise if this is the norm and if it could be from the SCOM
2007 application? could this be a memory leak?

Please note: this is a vmware virtual machine running ESX 3.5

Your help is appreciated.

I have seen this on our 2003x64 servers. What I have seen is that when I Remote Desktop connect into the servers, it launches the "Manage your server" wizard (a MSHTA app) if you exit the Remote Connection, then that MSHTA process keeps running, and leaks memory... over time it adds up.

I have learned to close the Manage your server window (because I do use it). However it could also be set to not start up, and it should also fix this issue. I have only seen this happen when I Remote into the server and then exit. The Manage your Server at the console has never caused any issues for me. Either way you can end this process from the Task Manager. It will respawn as soon as it is needed.
