Hello SCOM Gurus
I have been struggling with SCOM for weeks for very simple tasks and
not getting anywhere, please help me with subscription and classes
complexity
I have a group, which includes myserver.mydomain.com and
agentwatchersgroup class for that server
I created a subscription and on group, I selected ONLY that group and
on classes winodws I selected "Health Service Watcher" and Health
Service Watcher (Agent) class
when myserver goes off line or health service stops, I get alert under
monitoring and email as well

So far so good,
Now I have created a custom monitor to wathc for a custom service on
myserver machine (Using authoring > MP > Monitors) Applied override so
that this monitor looks for custom service on ONLY myserver machine.
This is working as well, when I stop that service, I get alert in
alert view
Now the problem starts
I want to create subscription so that I get email alerts as well when
this custom service is down BUT I am not sure what to select under
classes on subscription wizard. Should I choose windows service? or
some thing else
Do I need to add anything else in group under Authoring > groups
besides those 2 entries related to myserver

I am really lost, could u please help me with this simple task but yet
created complex by developers

I am on SP1

Hi

To create an alert subscription for a custom monitor, in the alert criteria
tick the box for "created by specific Rules or monitors" and select the
custom monitor you created.

There should be no need to select any class as you are targetting alerts
generated by only the custom monitor you created.

Hi Kailash,

Masala is in SP1 so he cant use this solution.

Masala, could you check the monitor and see the target/class you choose when
you created the monitor? there is an option to create extended class using a
common class like windows computer or windows server, then you create an
attribute that search for the spesific server (using WMI or Registry) and
finally after creating the monitor for that class using the subscription to
send alerts for that prticular class.

OR

you could upgrade to R2 and then use Kailash suggestion.
