SCOM Event Handlers

Hi all,

I've been tasked (as part of my current project) to stand up a proof of concept SCOM monitoring solution that will do the following:

1. Monitor a given TCP port on a set of Windows servers. Each server is a node in a cluster.
2. If the port check fails, trigger a script on that server to fail the node from the cluster.
3. Once the port starts responding again, merge the node back in to the cluster.

So, sounds fairly straight forward. Problem is, a week ago I'd never seen SCOM, and only have a few days to stand this solution up. So I need some advise before I start to panic and curl up in a ball under under my desk :-)

I can set up the Port monitor for each server node no problem in Authoring, but I need some generalised steps to link the port monitor with a SCOM event handler that will reach out and run the batch script.

Can anyone provide an overview of the steps required to get this to work please? I can figure out the details as long as I understand the logic.

Many thanks for the help with this.

YOu can create a Recovery and Diagnostic task for the port monitor and
configure them to run automatically
